scottie sandwich bento

My first attempt at a kyaraben (character bento), inspired by my doggy, Fergus.
It's a nori and cheese scottish terrier with a tomato collar, standing on some lettuce grass under the sky where an apricot sun peaks out from behind some cheese clouds.

Under all of this there is a sandwich, on wholegrain bread, with a Sanitarium Not Burger, light cheese, tomato, lettuce, hommus and sweet chilli sauce. Served with a strawberry, blueberries and rice crackers.

Calories: 550 (2299kj)

Process & time:
  1. Cook burger and prepare sandwich filling: Heat a small frying pan over a medium heat and cook frozen burger for 8 to 10 minutes, turning three times. While burger is cooking slice tomato, wash lettuce and spread hommus and sweet chilli sauce on bread - 8 to 10 minutes.
  2. Cut sandwich in half and place in bento box with sides - 1 minute.
  3. Make scottie dog: Cut a sheet of nori to an appropriate shape/size and 'stick' it on a processed cheese slice. With nori side down, use a biscuit cutter to cut the scottish terrier shape through the cheese. Carefully cut any parts of the nori that weren't cut by the biscuit cutter with kitchen scissors. Slice a strip of tomato for the collar - 5 minutes.
  4. Complete decorations: Slip a piece of lettuce down the side of the bento box and 'fold' it over the side of the sandwich. Cute cloud shapes from a slice of processed cheese and arrange around a dried apricot - 3 minutes

  1. Wow, I am in awe of people who do crafty things and even more in awe of things who do crafty things with food, especially lunch boxes.

I'm just proud to have brought my lunch both days of this week.

  2. Thanks AnnB! I'm on holiday at the moment, so I had plenty of time to fiddle around with this bento... And eat it in front of the TV... :P
